Upcoming stars Matthew Goode ("Match Point"
and Ben Whishaw ("Perfume"
have been cast in the two key roles for the big-screen adaptation of Evelyn Waugh novel "Brideshead Revisited," the producers said Friday.
Goode will play Charles Ryder, the character made famous in the U.K. by Jeremy Irons in a previous television adaptation, while Whishaw is cast as the flamboyant aesthete Sebastian Flyte, previously played by Anthony Andrews.
The casting was announced by HanWay, the U.K.-based international sales, distribution and marketing company, on Day 2 of this year's European Film Market.
HanWay is partnering with British production banner Ecosse Films, headed by Douglas Rae and Robert Bernstein, who will produce the script adapted by Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock.
"At HanWay, we are delighted that the casting of these pivotal roles is now confirmed," HanWay Films CEO Tim Haslam said. "Ben and Matthew are two of Britain's brightest acting talents who will bring great energy and an edgier approach to the realization of this film. We're thrilled to have them onboard."

Founded in 1998, HanWay arranges financing, sales and distribution for films from Oscar winner Jeremy Thomas' shingle, Recorded Picture Co., as well as other third-party producers and directors.
The company also manages film libraries, including titles from Merchant Ivory, Peter Weir and Wim Wenders as well as the RPC and HanWay libraries.
